Alimony

Introduced·1/14/25
Introduced Text

Amends South Carolina alimony laws to eliminate periodic alimony and introduce fixed-term alimony based on marriage length.

This bill amends South Carolina's alimony laws by eliminating periodic alimony and introducing fixed-term alimony based on the length of the marriage. It also prohibits alimony for spouses who commit adultery before a specific event. The court can still award alimony for temporary relief or a final order, considering the circumstances of the parties. Alimony terminates upon the remarriage or continued cohabitation of the supported spouse, retirement age, or the death of either spouse.
