Arthur Paiva was born in Warren and moved to Newport at age six, teaching himself English. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and later in the United States Air Force. Paiva was a devoted family man, active in community affairs, and a member of several organizations including the Knights of Columbus and the Newport Elks. He contributed to the community by bringing Kidney Dialysis machines to Newport and becoming one of the oldest bone marrow donors.
