Introduced Text

Rhode Island S3109 allows grand juries to issue public reports and establishes a review process by the superior court.

Rhode Island S3109 amends the General Laws to permit grand juries to issue reports and establishes a process for review and acceptance by the superior court. The bill specifies that a grand jury report may only be issued if it is based on facts from an investigation, supported by a preponderance of evidence, and does not contain privileged or confidential information. The presiding justice of the superior court reviews the report and may order redactions or seal the report if it could prejudice a criminal matter.
