Rhode Island S3044 enhances the role of the DMV in voter registration by establishing specific obligations and responsibilities for offering voter.

Rhode Island S3044 mandates that the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) provide voter registration applications to eligible individuals applying for or renewing a driver's license or personal identification document. The DMV must identify applicants who are U.S. citizens and of voting age. These applicants must be offered the opportunity to register to vote or update their voting address. The DMV must transmit the necessary information to the central voter registration system within one business day.
