Rhode Island S2983 allows for the expungement of criminal records after a certain period post-sentence completion.

Rhode Island S2983 amends the expungement of criminal records law to allow individuals to file for expungement of misdemeanor records five years after sentence completion and felony records ten years after completion. For sentences longer than ten years, expungement can be filed upon successful completion. This applies to those who have paid all court-imposed fees and have not been convicted of a crime of violence. The act takes effect upon passage.
