Simplifies the assessment of filing fees for appeals in small claims and consumer matters in Rhode Island.

This bill amends the General Laws of Rhode Island to simplify the assessment of filing fees for appeals in small claims and consumer matters. It sets a $75 filing fee for defendants appealing district court decisions, inclusive of a civil case processing fee and technology surcharge. The bill also mandates a written waiver of the right to appeal for both plaintiffs and defendants. The changes will take effect on January 1, 2027.
