Rhode Island S2971 allows individuals to voluntarily restrict their firearm purchase and possession rights for temporary or indefinite periods.

Rhode Island S2971, the Suicide Prevention--Voluntary Firearm Restrictions Act, establishes a process for individuals to voluntarily restrict their rights to purchase or possess firearms. Individuals can request to be placed on a temporary list, restricting firearm rights for up to 180 days, or an indefinite list, restricting rights until the individual requests removal. Individuals can request removal from either list after a specified period, with automatic removal from the temporary list after 180 days.
