Rhode Island S2948 allows the medical advisory board to suspend an operator's license and order the use of an interlock ignition system.

Rhode Island S2948 amends the state's laws to authorize the medical advisory board of the division of motor vehicles to suspend the license of an operator or chauffeur if they pose an imminent safety risk to the public. The board can also order the use of an interlock ignition system and substance use counseling. The division of motor vehicles must notify the licensee in writing of the reasons for the suspension and provide a hearing. The suspension can last up to one year, depending on the circumstances. The act takes effect upon passage.
