Rhode Island S2932 amends the Payment of Wages chapter to hold construction contractors liable for wage theft or nonpayment claims from employees. Contractors must assume liability for debts owed to wage claimants by subcontractors. Contractors can be held jointly and severally liable for unpaid wages, benefits, and other costs. Contractors can be held liable for up to 120 consecutive days of alleged wage theft. The act applies to construction contracts entered into after January 1, 2027.
