Rhode Island S2870 mandates certified labs to perform blood lead analyses on children under 6 at no cost.

Rhode Island S2870 amends the Lead Poisoning Prevention Act to require any licensed laboratory performing blood lead analyses on children under 6 to be certified by the director. These labs must conduct the tests regardless of the child or their parent's ability to pay, and at no cost. The Department of Health must analyze and summarize lead screening information annually and provide it to relevant agencies and the public. The act takes effect upon passage.
