Rhode Island S2818 would amend the state's retirement laws to provide annual cost of living adjustments for retirees in the state pension system. These adjustments, which would be compounded into the retiree’s total retirement benefits each year, would be based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers or three percent, whichever is less. The bill would apply prospectively only, meaning it would not provide retroactive benefits. The provisions would take effect January 1, 2026.
