Rhode Island S2797 halts net metering contracts, subsidies for heat pumps, and long-term solar or wind energy contracts.

Rhode Island S2797 places a moratorium on net metering contracts, subsidies for heat pumps, and long-term contracts for purchasing solar or wind energy. The moratorium on net metering contracts prevents customers from generating and supplying their own energy. It also prohibits the state from entering into long-term contracts for solar or wind energy. Additionally, the bill stops subsidies for heat pumps. This act will take effect on January 1, 2027.
