Introduced·2/13/26

Rhode Island S2623 provides paid leave for state employees who donate an organ, with leave duration based on the type of donation.

Rhode Island S2623, the Organ-Donation Leave Act, provides paid leave for state employees who donate an organ. Eligible employees must have completed their probationary period and worked at least 1,250 hours in the previous year. The leave duration varies: 60 days for kidney or liver segment donations, 30 days for bone marrow donations, or until medically unnecessary. Employees must notify their employer at least 30 days before the leave. Time on organ-donation leave counts toward step increases, FMLA, and unpaid medical leave entitlements.
