Rhode Island S2401 authorizes the city of Cranston to establish a housing division within its municipal court. The city council can appoint a judge and clerk for the housing division, who may or may not be the same as those for the municipal court. The housing division can hear cases involving violations of zoning ordinances and minimum housing standards, among others. It can impose sentences up to 30 days in jail, fines up to $500, or both. Defendants found guilty of offenses can appeal to the superior court within five days.
