This bill, known as the Safeguarding Election Candidates Using Reasonable Expenditures Act, authorizes candidates and elected officials to use campaign funds for security expenses, including home and office security systems and ongoing monitoring, in response to threats arising from their public service or candidacy. The expenses must be reasonably related to security risks, supported by itemized receipts or invoices, and subject to public disclosure under campaign finance laws. The maximum amount allowed for physical security equipment and installation is $10,000 per individual.
