Rhode Island S2324 prohibits employers from seeking or using credit reports in making hiring decisions, asking questions about the applicant's financial past during interviews, or including credit history questions in job applications. Exceptions include roles requiring a credit check under federal or state law, national security clearance, signatory authority over third-party funds worth $10,000 or more, regular access to trade secrets, or modifying digital security systems. Employers must notify applicants and obtain written consent before conducting credit checks.
