Introduced Text

Rhode Island S2305 removes the five-year waiting period and numerical limit for sealing eviction court files.

Rhode Island S2305 amends the Residential Landlord and Tenant Act to allow any party involved in an eviction case to file a motion to seal the court record without a five-year waiting period. It also removes the limit on how many times a party can file such a motion. The court can seal the record if the case was dismissed, resolved by stipulation, or dismissed for lack of prosecution after five years. This change takes effect immediately upon passage.
