Establishes a program for energy and water benchmarking of large buildings in Rhode Island.
The bill establishes a building energy reporting program for residential, nonresidential properties, and campuses containing 25,000 or more gross square feet. The Office of Energy Resources (OER) will be responsible for reporting this information to the public. Owners of covered properties must input annual energy use data into the benchmarking tool, which is the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. The OER will develop incentives for participation, including certification, public forums, and a logo for buildings' websites.
