Introduced Text

Rhode Island S2234 allows veterans who served in the National Guard or reserves to buy retirement service credits based on their military service.

Rhode Island S2234 amends the state's retirement system to allow members who served in the National Guard or reserves and qualify as veterans to purchase retirement service credits. These credits are based on their years of military service, up to a maximum of four years. Members can buy these credits at a cost of 10% of their first year's earnings as a state employee. No interest is charged if the purchase is made within the first five years of membership in the retirement system.
