Introduced Text

Rhode Island S2213 mandates the use of padded soft-shell helmet covers for students in interscholastic football.

Rhode Island S2213 requires students participating in interscholastic league football to wear soft-shell helmet covers that add a padded, soft-shell layer to traditional football helmets. These covers, designed to reduce impact from collisions, will be provided by school districts. Parents, guardians, or students aged 18 and older can opt for a traditional hard-shelled helmet instead. The Rhode Island interscholastic league will establish rules for the selection and use of these devices, and the state may allocate funds to assist with their purchase. This act takes effect upon passage.
