Rhode Island S2169 allows students in certain career and technical education programs to take firefighter exams upon program completion.

Rhode Island S2169 enables students enrolled in appropriately credentialed career and technical education programs in emergency medicine technician, firefighting, or public safety to participate in training activities at the Rhode Island fire academy. Students who successfully complete these programs can take exams for certifications such as Hazardous Materials Awareness, Firefighter I, and Firefighter II. The fire education and training coordinating board can set rules to ensure students are properly trained. This act takes effect on July 1, 2026.
