Rhode Island S2092 imposes a seventy-five cent surcharge on fares charged by rideshare companies. Half of the surcharge collections will be deposited in a restricted account to benefit the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) and fund Transit Forward RI. The other half will be used for street improvements in the municipality where the fare originated. Additionally, sales tax collected from rideshare companies will be deposited in a restricted account for RIPTA. The tax administrator will implement the provisions of this chapter.
