Chamber Passed·3/10/26
Introduced Text

Rhode Island S2018 amends the state constitution to guarantee residents equal opportunities for an adequate, equitable, and meaningful education.

Rhode Island S2018 proposes an amendment to the state constitution to ensure Rhode Island residents have equal opportunities for an adequate, equitable, and meaningful education. The amendment, if approved, would make it the paramount duty of the general assembly, the Department of Education, and other government agencies to provide this education. The amendment also includes a perpetual school fund and makes the right to education judicially enforceable, allowing individuals to seek relief in superior court for noncompliance. The amendment would take effect on January 1, 2028.
