Introduced Text

Rhode Island H8578 provides workplace protection for family caregivers and enforcement through the human rights commission.

Rhode Island H8578 amends the Family Caregivers Support Act of 2013 to provide workplace protection for family caregivers. It prohibits employers from refusing to hire or discriminating against employees due to family caregiver responsibilities. Employers must accommodate requests for flexible scheduling or remote work unless it causes undue hardship. The Human Rights Commission will enforce these provisions, conducting investigations and ordering remedies such as reinstatement and back pay. This act takes effect upon passage.
