Rhode Island H8428 considers shared services when authorizing regional school districts.

Rhode Island H8428 amends the establishment of regional school districts to include shared services as a consideration. The commissioner of elementary and secondary education must order a regional school district planning board to study the feasibility of regionalization and shared services. The study must address various factors, including the impact on spending per pupil, curriculum weaknesses, labor contracts, facility requirements, socio-economic and cultural heritage, vocational education, and the effect on disadvantaged populations. The board must report its findings within 18 months.
