Rhode Island H8264 mandates that retailers keep money for gift certificates in a separate account until redeemed.

Rhode Island H8264 amends the General Laws to require retailers to maintain money received for gift certificates in a separate account until the certificates are used or redeemed. This applies to all gift certificates sold by retailers, except those distributed without any monetary exchange as part of rewards, loyalty, or promotional programs. The act takes effect immediately upon passage.
