Rhode Island H8210 allocates $2,300,000 to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management for quahog transplantation and a shellfish.

This bill authorizes an appropriation of $2,300,000 to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) for transplanting quahogs into Narragansett Bay and establishing a shellfish hatchery program. The $300,000 portion of the appropriation will be used for the transplantation of quahogs into cleaner waters to help reverse the decline in Rhode Island's shellfish harvests. The remaining $2,000,000 will establish a long-term shellfish hatchery program, administered by a nonprofit entity chosen by the DEM, with a production capacity of 500 million pieces annually.
