This bill amends the Rhode Island General Laws to make it a felony for any person required to register as a sex offender to reside within three hundred feet of a school. The distance is measured from the nearest boundary line of the offender's residence to the nearest boundary line of the school property. Upon conviction, the offender may face imprisonment for up to five years, a fine of up to five thousand dollars, or both. This act takes effect upon passage.
