Rhode Island H8044 makes offenses against gift card holders subject to the penalties for larceny.

Rhode Island H8044 amends the General Laws to make offenses against gift card holders subject to the penalties for larceny. This includes altering or tampering with a gift card with intent to defraud, using a gift card or gift card redemption information obtained without consent, and acquiring or retaining possession of a gift card or redemption information without consent. The penalties for these offenses are determined by the value of the items obtained, with offenses exceeding $1,500 subject to larceny penalties. The act takes effect upon passage.
