Requires criminal background checks for applicants to work or volunteer for South Kingstown fire departments.

Rhode Island H8030 mandates that applicants for employment or volunteering with South Kingstown fire departments undergo national and state criminal background checks. The checks must be conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Identification, Department of Attorney General, State Police, or South Kingstown Police Department, and fingerprinting is required. The applicant is responsible for the cost of the checks. The checks must be certified and printed on local police department letterhead with a raised seal and the signature of a duly appointed officer. This act takes effect upon passage.
