The Rhode Island Inclusive Home Design Act requires new single-family, townhouse, and multi-family constructions to comply with ANSI Standards for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities. Specifically, it mandates that new constructions include at least one level that meets the Standards for Type C (Visitable) Units. The act applies to constructions permitted after July 1, 2027, and excludes manufactured housing, adaptive re-use, and redevelopment of existing buildings. Local permitting authorities must ensure compliance, and aggrieved parties can appeal if compliance is not possible.
