Rhode Island H8020 allows building inspectors to conduct virtual inspections or use photographic evidence at their discretion.

Rhode Island H8020 amends the State Building Code to allow building inspectors to conduct "virtual inspections" or utilize photographic evidence during and upon completion of work for which a permit has been issued. This change gives building officials the discretion to use remote assessments via video technology, reducing the need for on-site presence. The bill also maintains the requirement for building officials to make inspections within specified timeframes and outlines procedures for hiring third-party inspectors if the building official fails to perform an inspection.
