Introduced Text

Rhode Island H7561 prohibits employers from requiring employees to use paid time off for maternity leave.

Rhode Island H7561 amends the state's labor laws to prohibit employers from requiring employees to use accrued sick leave, vacation leave, personal leave, or other paid time off as a condition for eligibility for, or receipt of, maternity leave benefits. Employees may still voluntarily choose to use their accrued leave to supplement wage replacement benefits. This act aims to ensure that employees can access maternity leave benefits without having to deplete their paid time off. The changes would take effect upon the bill's passage.
