This bill creates a tuition assistance fund within the Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner to help students in Rhode Island who are pursuing degrees in shortage teaching fields, such as mathematics and sciences for grades seven through twelve. Tuition assistance covers tuition, room, board, mandatory fees, and other costs of attending a Rhode Island postsecondary institution. Recipients must complete at least three years of full-time teaching in a shortage teaching field in the state.
