Rhode Island H7439 prohibits law enforcement agencies from hiring individuals who were hired as sworn officers of the U.S.

Rhode Island H7439 amends the Law Enforcement Officers’ Due Process, Accountability, and Transparency Act by adding a new section that prohibits any law enforcement agency in the state from hiring individuals who were hired as sworn officers of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency on or after January 20, 2025. This prohibition would apply prospectively to individuals hired on or after October 1, 2026. The act does not affect individuals hired by the agency before the effective date of this section.
