Automatically extends teacher certifications for three or five years without fee or penalty for teachers certified as of July 1, 2026.

This bill extends teacher certifications for three or five years without fee or penalty for teachers holding certifications as of July 1, 2026. It includes all certifications issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education, such as emergency certifications with conditions. For the three-year period from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029, the department will waive all fees to apply for certifications. The bill also allows teachers with three years of certified teaching experience to acquire additional certifications through examination or content coursework.
