Rhode Island H7350 introduces safety features for AI companion technology, requiring protocols to address suicidal ideation, potential physical harm, or financial harm to others expressed by users. It mandates that operators provide notifications at the beginning of interactions and every three hours thereafter, stating that the AI companion is a computer program and not a human being. The act also empowers the attorney general to investigate and seek injunctions against noncompliant AI companion providers. This act will take effect on January 1, 2027.
