Rhode Island H7342 amends provisions related to school waste recycling and refuse disposal. It requires educational entities to conduct waste audits and submit reports to the Rhode Island Department of Education. The bill also authorizes the use of sharing tables in schools where food service staff, students, and faculty can place unopened, prepackaged, shelf-stable items, wrapped fruit and vegetables, and unopened containers of milk. Donations of food not taken by students during meals can be donated to food banks or nonprofit charitable organizations.
