Introduced Text

Rhode Island H7254 allows veterans who served in the national guard or reserves to buy retirement service credits based on their military service.

Rhode Island H7254 amends the state's retirement system to enable members who served in the national guard or reserves and qualify as veterans to purchase retirement service credits. These credits are based on their years of military service, with a ratio of five years of military service equating to one year of creditable service, up to a maximum of four years. The cost for these credits is 10% of the member's first year's earnings as a state employee. Members on official leave of absence for illness or injury can also purchase these credits.
