Rhode Island law grants tenants who are victims of abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking the right to terminate their lease early without penalty or liability for rent. This applies if the tenant or a household member has been a victim of such acts within the last 150 days or if an event related to past abuse occurs within that period. The tenant must provide written verification of the abuse, such as a protective order or a report to law enforcement.
