Introduced Text

Rhode Island H7140 allows school districts to petition for lower-cost curriculum programs if they are substantially similar to approved programs.

Rhode Island H7140 enables any local education agency (LEA) to petition the board of education to use a lower-cost curriculum program, provided it is substantially similar to other programs approved by the board. The commissioner of elementary and secondary education can grant extensions to LEAs facing financial hardship, if they demonstrate continued efforts to complete implementation. The commissioner must also institute a waiver process for LEAs wanting to use a curriculum other than those identified by the commissioner.
