Federal law already makes it a crime to order or keep troops or armed men at a place where an election is being held, punishable by up to five years in prison and disqualification from federal office. That line has held through every contested election in living memory, because a voter who has to walk past armed federal agents to reach a ballot box is not voting freely, whatever their status. This year the signals have been mixed about whether federal personnel will be near polling places, and a draft executive order declaring a national emergency and asserting federal power over the election has circulated among the president's allies. Elections here are run by states and counties, counted in public, and certified locally. That is the design, not a loophole. Oppose any emergency federal takeover of the 2026 election and any deployment of armed federal personnel at or near polling places, and back enforcement of the ban already on the books.
Childhood vaccine schedules used to be set the boring way: an outside committee of specialists, meeting in public, screened for conflicts, leaving a paper trail anyone could read. That committee was fired and replaced by appointment, and the schedule is now being rewritten by executive order, not because new evidence arrived, but because one official decided. Pediatricians are fielding questions they can't answer about whether a shot will still be covered next month, and measles is back in places that hadn't seen a case in a generation. This is what it looks like when a decision that belongs to evidence gets handed to a person. Restore an independent, public, conflict-screened vaccine advisory process, keep the schedule with the science rather than the appointee, and guarantee every recommended vaccine stays free at the point of care.
When an AI system a company sold gives dangerous advice, invents a defamatory "fact" about a real person, or hands an attacker the keys to the system it was trusted with, the company's answer is a terms-of-service page you clicked past and a claim that nobody could have seen it coming. Every other industry that ships a product into people's lives (cars, drugs, ladders, baby formula) answers for foreseeable harm in a courtroom. That isn't hostility to the technology; it's the ordinary price of selling something, and it's the only mechanism that has ever reliably gotten a company to fix a defect before the lawsuit instead of after. Pass a federal AI liability standard: no blanket immunity, no forced arbitration, and a clear path to court when a company's system causes real harm.
