Introduced Text

Pennsylvania SB744 mandates overwatch towers at correctional institutions to be manned by corrections officers during outdoor inmate movement.

Pennsylvania SB744 amends Title 61 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to include provisions for overwatch towers at correctional institutions. The bill requires that these towers be manned by corrections officers during any outdoor inmate movement. Exceptions apply if the tower cannot be used to supervise inmates. The act defines "overwatch tower" as a tall building, either freestanding or part of another structure, from which corrections officers can supervise inmates. The changes will take effect 60 days after the act is passed.
