Introduced Text

Pennsylvania SB521 amends the judicial change of name process, requiring court approval and detailing the petition process.

Pennsylvania SB521 amends Title 54 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to revise the judicial change of name process. An individual must file a petition in the court of common pleas of the county where they reside. If married, the spouse may join as a party petitioner. The petition must include the intention to change the name, the reason, current and past residences, and any request to proceed without notice. Upon filing, the court sets a hearing date between one and three months later and may require notice publication and delivery to nonpetitioning parents.
