Introduced Text

Pennsylvania SB393 allows senior citizens to exempt their real property from tax increases, with certain conditions.

Pennsylvania SB393, known as the Senior Citizens' Property Tax Freeze Act, authorizes senior citizens to claim an exemption from tax increases on certain real property. To qualify, individuals must be 65 years or older, reside on the property for at least five consecutive years, and have an annual income not exceeding $65,000. The exemption terminates upon sale or transfer of the property, except to a joint owner who is also 65 years or older. The Department of Revenue will reimburse political subdivisions for the difference in tax revenue.
