Pennsylvania SB277 proposes an amendment to the state constitution to alter the tenure of justices, judges, and justices of the peace. The amendment sets a ten-year term for justices and judges, and a six-year term for judges of the municipal court in Philadelphia and justices of the peace. It also limits Supreme Court justices, Superior Court judges, and Commonwealth Court judges to two terms. If a majority of voters oppose a justice or judge's retention, a vacancy is created at the end of their term, to be filled by appointment.
