HB903, known as the Meat Packing and Food Preparation Industry Employee Verification Act, requires employers in the meat packing and food preparation industry to verify the work authorization of new hires through the E-Verify program. Employers must maintain verification records for the duration of employment or three years. Employers are prohibited from knowingly employing unauthorized employees. The Department of Labor and Industry must investigate complaints and verify work authorization with the federal government. Penalties include license suspension and fines.
