Introduced Text

Pennsylvania HB1885 establishes a school swimming education program for students in grades K-12, including curriculum development and funding.

Pennsylvania HB1885 amends the Public School Code of 1949 to create a school swimming education program. The Department of Education must develop a model curriculum and guidelines for water and swimming safety, available to all school entities. The curriculum must include awareness of water conditions, safe behaviors, flotation devices, and avoiding alcohol and substance use with water recreation. Schools can partner with local agencies for access to water and swimming facilities. Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, schools may use the model curriculum or develop their own.
