Pennsylvania HB1519 prohibits health insurers and MA or CHIP managed care plans from requiring prior authorization for mental health medications.

Pennsylvania HB1519 amends the Insurance Company Law of 1921 to prohibit health insurers and MA or CHIP managed care plans from requiring prior authorization for mental health medications. This applies to serious mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, major depressive disorder, panic disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, schizoaffective disorder, and delusional disorder. The act takes effect 60 days after enactment.
