HB1485 amends the act providing for the payment of death benefits to the surviving spouse or children or parents of public works employees, coroners, and staff who die as a result of the performance of their duties. The benefit is payable to the surviving spouse or, if there is no surviving spouse, the minor children or parents of the deceased. The bill also presumes that a public works employee or similar personnel who suffers a fatal heart attack or stroke while on duty or within 24 hours after participating in a physical training exercise or responding to an emergency died as a result of.
